That the Governance, Priorities and Finance Committee recommend to Council that Policy C-CS-03 Community Recognition Program be amended to add the category “Distinguished Achievement”; to amend the category “Arts & Culture” to read “Arts, Music, and Culture”; and to delete the award category “Past Era Business of Distinction”.

PURPOSE OF REPORT
At the request of GPFC, the Community Services Advisory Committee (CSAC) has been consulted and have provided three recommendations for changes to the current categories within the Community Recognition Program. This report brings forward the recommendation of CSAC to the GPFC for review.

ALIGNMENT TO COUNCIL DIRECTION OR MANDATORY STATUTORY PROVISION
On November 13, 2018 GPFC passed the following motion:
(AR-18-442)
That the Governance, Priorities and Finance Committee recommend to Council that the amended version of Council Policy C-CS-03 Community Recognition Program, provided as an attachment to the November 13, 2018 agenda report entitled “Community Recognition Policy”, be approved.
That GPFC refer Policy C-CS-03 Community Recognition Program to CSAC for their consideration of additional categories to be brought back to Council at the August 2019 GPFC meeting.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
In the fall of 2018, Policy C-CS-03 Community Recognition Program (attachment 1) was amended to include a separate nomination category for Environmental Stewardship. The area of “environment” had previously been included within the category of “Citizenship”, but a request had come forward from the Environmental Advisory Committee to acknowledge those providing outstanding contributions for the environment to be acknowledged in a separate cate...
