PURPOSE OF REPORT
Administration is bringing this matter back to Council as it was determined that a small administrative amendment is required to the Bylaw to ensure functional transition between now and when members of the Policing Committee are appointed.
COUNCIL DIRECTION
On June 12, 2017 Council passed the following motions:

That Bylaw 28/2017 be read a third and final time.
(BL17-035)
That Administration undertake all necessary actions to enable the Policing Committee to commence its role and exercise its authorities effective January 1, 2018.
BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
On June 12, 2017 Council gave final reading to the Policing Committee Bylaw 28/2017. The Bylaw established a formal Policing Committee pursuant to the Alberta Police Act and as such delegated some of the authorities granted to the Chief Elected Official (Mayor) under the Municipal Police Service Agreement to the Chair of the Policing Committee.
Council also directed Administration to take necessary actions to enable the Policing Committee to commence its role and exercise its authorities effective January 1, 2018.
Between now and January 1, 2018, there will be Municipal Police Service Agreement matters that will require a level of consultation and communication between the Municipality and the RCMP. As such, a small amendment to the Bylaw is recommended to make it clear that the Policing Committee's authority delegated through the Bylaw does not commence until the Committee's inaugural meeting.
