Administration’s Understanding of Intent Motion:

That the Policy be amended to provide clarity that “cash” may be provided to an eligible not-for-profit (as defined in the policy), for the purposes of supporting a fundraising initiative for the organization.  Direct donations to the general revenues of the organization would still be prohibited.

Operational or Organizational Impacts if Motion is Approved:

If this motion is passed, administration will draft amendments to the policy for consideration of the Community Growth & Infrastructure Committee.

Financial Implications of Motions:

None

Background:

There has been a lack of clarity within the Policy as to if an individual Council member can provide an organization with a “cash” including EFT,Cash, Cheque, Credit card, as a donation or as support for a fundraising event (ie. Sponsor a hole at a golf tournament).

The original intent  of the Policy was never to allow donations to be used as general revenue to support the works of the organization.  The intent was to provide a level of support related to sponsoring events that are desired to fundraise for the organization.

Administration supports adding the required clarity to the policy.
