PURPOSE OF REPORT

 

The purpose of this report is to provide an opportunity for the Policing Committee to provide Council with information as it relates to their activities.

ALIGNMENT TO LEVELS OF SERVICE DELIVERY

 

RCMP Services

 

Contract with Public Safety Canada that designates the RCMP as the Municipal Police Service. As per the agreement, the RCMP provides services necessary to preserve the peace, protect life and property, prevent crime and offences against the laws of Canada and Alberta. This includes: apprehend criminals, offenders and others who may be lawfully taken into custody, execute all warrants, and may provide services necessary to prevent bylaw offences after giving due consideration to policing demands. RCMP determines appropriate policing responses in accordance with the Municipal Police Services Agreement.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

 

The St. Albert Policing Committee was originally established by Council in 2017 through Bylaw 28/2017. The committee operated under that Bylaw until April 8, 2019 when Bylaw 13/2019 came into effect amending the roles and responsibilities of the committees.
