The purpose of this agenda item is to respond to Council’s questions regarding the lands south of Meadowview Drive.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
Please refer to the agenda report previously distributed on June 13, 2022 with the Community Growth & Infrastructure Standing Committee (CGISC), which provides background information related to the lands south of Meadowview Drive. For reasons contained within this report, it was recommended by Administration to rescind Council’s motion to re-designate the subject lands from Employment Areas to Major Open Spaces. The motion was subsequently rescinded by Council on June 20, 2022.
Additionally, the St. Albert West ASP, approved on September 3, 2024, includes policies aimed at minimizing potential environmental impacts. The ASP also proposes a minimum 20-metre wide Connector Park above the designated flood line north of Big Lake, to serve as a buffer between future development and the floodplain of Big Lake. Connector Parks are primarily pathways and trails with some associated open space and park amenities such as small seating areas or landscaping.
