QUESTION

recommendation

The Botanic Parking Lot Paving - ENGS-084 Project Charter notes that design for the parking lot began in 2025, with design outputs expected in Q3 2025. Could you provide a current status update on the design?

RESPONSE

Charter ENGS-084 was developed with an expectation that engineering and design would occur in 2025 and would be completed in a timeline to inform on an updated charter for 2027. This resulted in funding for construction identified in 2027 which would incorporate details and updates from the completed design. Administration has advanced the design work with approved funding for the Botanic Parking Lot project (Charter ENGS-084) in 2025 and the project is at a state that enables updates.

The project is currently at a 90% detailed design level and has been informed by site inspections, standards and guidelines and input from the Friends of Botanic Gardens. This would put the project at a state of readiness for tendering for construction.

With the updated information from the detailed design, an updated cost estimate has been developed that reflects a reduction from the initial conceptual costs previously applied to the project charter and what was within the 2026 charter (as information was not available at the time of its development).

Updated costs:

1.                     Construction = $620,000

2.                     Contingency (20%) = $124,000

3.                     Construction Management (20%) = $137,500

4.                     Total Estimated costs for construction = $881,500
