That the Mayor, on behalf of City Council will write a letter of endorsement for the Rotary Club of St. Albert supporting their Peace Action Group’s application to designate St. Albert as a City of Peace under the Internation Cities of Peace initiative.

The purpose of this report is to present a motion for which Councillor Clark gave notice on July 17, 2026.

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION
Designation as a City of Peace under the International Cities of Peace initiative would be a commitment to building peace at the local level.
Becoming a City of Peace is a commitment to building a safer, more inclusive, connected, and compassionate community through collaboration, service, education, reconciliation, and shared action.
Peacebuilding begins with small actions and grows when people come together with purpose, collaboration, commitment, and creativity. Over the past year, the Rotary Club of St. Albert’s Peace Action Group has brought that spirit to life through activities that promote peace, inclusion, understanding, and positive change across our community.
Designation as a City of Peace aligns with existing Community Services service levels and the Community Social Roadmap. Administration would work collaboratively with the Rotary Club of St. Albert to support the initiative where it aligns with existing services levels and priorities.
