Election of Chair and Vice Chair for 2026

The Legislative Officer in attendance will assume the Chair and asks that the Committee members to introduce themselves. After which time, the Legislative Officer will go through the roles of Chair and Vice-Chair as follows:
Role of Chair and Vice-Chair:
At its first meeting of each calendar year Members shall:
1. designate one Member as Chair, to act as the spokesperson for the Committee which includes:
a) attend Council meetings to present the Committee's annual report, which is drafted by the Chair
b) attend Council when a matter of the Committee is on the council agenda (not always to do a presentation but more so to answer questions of Council.)
c) address the media;
d) establish a schedule and frequency of meetings of the Committee;
e) observe decorum in meetings;
Additionally, the Committee will designate one member as Vice-chair who will take on the above noted duties in the absence of the Chair.
Process for election of Chair/Vice-Chair:
The Legislative Officer will ask for nominations for Chair and Vice-Chair:
1. A member can nominate themselves for either the Chair or Vice-Chair;
2. A member can nominate another member for either the Chair or Vice-Chair
If a member is nominated by another member, the Legislative Officer will confirm that the Nominee accepts the nomination.
If there is only one nomination received for a position, the outcome will be that the Nominee is appointed to the position by acclamation.
In the event that there is more than one nomination then an election needs to occur. The Nominee has a choice of either a silent vote by ballot or a vote by hand, in either instance the Nominee can either stay in the room or leave the room, it is their choice.
