BUDGET POSTPONED MOTION:

recommendation

That the 2021 operating budget be reduced by $15,000 related to a shift to a bring your own device approach to the cellular communication needs of the City as described in the City of St. Albert Operational and Fiscal Review final report.

body

Administration’s Understanding of the Intent of the Motion:

That the City pursue the recommendation from the Ernst & Young Operational and Fiscal Review regarding the implementation of a bring your own device directive to address the City's cellular needs and realize tax savings of $15,000 in 2021.

Operational or Organizational Impacts if Motion is Approved:

City Administration is in agreement with this E&Y recommendation however, this will take time to implement due to the need to co-ordinate with expiry of  existing cellular contracts. Also, other potential concerns such as privacy and security need to be considered before a decision is made to implement.

A draft directive on Bring Your Own Device has already been developed and can be finalized and approved internally by the CAO, by January 1, 2021. An implementation plan could then be developed and actioned in Q1, 2021.

Financial Implications of Motion:

2021 savings are estimated at $15,000 with future savings expected to be higher.  If passed, this motion will reduce the tax requirement for 2021 by $15,000.
