body
The SDAB Clerk in attendance will assume the role of Acting Chair and ask the Board members to introduce themselves. After which time, the SDAB Clerk will go through the roles of Chair and Vice-Chair as follows:
Role of Chair and Vice-Chair:
At the first meeting of each calendar year, the members of the Board shall:
a) elect one member as Chair and one member as Vice Chair who shall act in the absence of the Chair.
b) shall be responsible for the conduct of the meeting;
c) additional functions and duties can be found in the Subdivision & Development Appeal Board Bylaw 20/1995 <https://stalbert.ca/cosa/bylaws/>
Process for election of Chair/Vice-Chair:
The SDAB Clerk will ask for nominations for Chair:
1. A member can nominate themselves for either the Chair or Vice-Chair;
2. A member can nominate another member for either the Chair or Vice-Chair
If a member is nominated by another member, the Clerk will confirm that the Nominee accepts the nomination.
If there is only one nomination received for a position, the outcome will be that the Nominee is appointed to the position by acclamation.
In the event that there is more than one nomination then an election needs to occur. The Nominee has a choice of either a silent vote by ballot or a vote by hand, in either instance the Nominee can either stay in the room or leave the room, it is their choice.
The Clerk will outline the process for the method chosen for the election as follows:
Silent vote by ballot:
• each member of the Board will be provided with a ballot;
• members will indicate their choice on the ballot;
• ballot will be given to Clerk and put a basket of sorts;
• Clerk will proceed to read out each ballot and tally the results.
Vote by hand:
• Clerk will read out the name of the first Nominee;
• members will indicate by the raise of hand if they vote for that individual;
• Clerk will track the hand count;
• above process will continue for each Nominee until complete;
• after all hand votes are completed, the Clerk will tally the count and read out the result.
Once election of Chair has been completed, the SDAB Clerk will had over the role of Chair to the NEWLY ELECTED 2026 Chair, to conduct election of 2026 Vice Chair.
The above process will start all over for the election of the Vice-Chair.
