That Logan Sawatzky be appointed as a member of the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC) for a term beginning on April 1, 2025 and ending on December 31, 2026.

SUMMARY

 

This report is brought forward to fill one vacancy on the Environmental Advisory Committee (EAC).

 

ALIGNMENT TO COUNCIL DIRECTION OR MANDATORY STATUTORY PROVISION

 

Section 10 of the Environmental Advisory Committee Bylaw 35/2015 states that:

 

(1) Notwithstanding the foregoing sections, if, for any reason, a Member vacates his or her membership on the Committee part of the way through that Member’s Term, Council shall appoint as a replacement Member

(a) a resident of St. Albert; or

(b) a Councillor, if the vacating Member is a Councillor.   

(2) The replacement Member referred to in subsection (1) shall serve the remainder of the vacating Member’s Term.

 

Civic Agency Policy C-CC-12 states:

 

If a member of the civic agency is unable to complete the term of office as required, that member shall be replaced by Council appointment, provided that at least five months are left in the member’s term of office.

 

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

 

On February 24, 2025, a member of the Environmental Advisory Committee submitted their resignation.  This member’s appointment term was from January 1, 2025 to December 31, 2026.  As a result of the resignation, a recommendation for the appointment of one new member to fill the remaining term is brought forward for Council's consideration.

By appointing applicants to Committee and Board vacancies, Council is ensuring that the membership requirements outlined in the various Committee and Board bylaws are fulfilled.
