Process for election of Chair/Vice-Chair:
The Legislative Officer will ask for nominations for Chair and Vice-Chair:
1. A member can nominate themselves for either the Chair or Vice-Chair;
2. A member can nominate another member for either the Chair or Vice-Chair
If a member is nominated by another member, the Legislative Officer will confirm that the Nominee accepts the nomination.
If there is only one nomination received for a position, the outcome will be that the Nominee is appointed to the position by acclamation.
In the event that there is more than one nomination then an election needs to occur. The Nominee has a choice of either a silent vote by ballot or a vote by hand, in either instance the Nominee can either stay in the room or leave the room, it is their choice.
The Legislative Officer will outline the process for the method chosen for the election as follows:
Silent vote by ballot:
• each member of the committee will be provided with a ballot;
• members will indicate their choice on the ballot;
• ballot will be given to Legislative Officer and put a basket of sorts;
• Legislative Officer will proceed to read out each ballot and tally the results.
Vote by hand:
• Legislative Officer will read out the name of the first Nominee;
• members will indicate by the raise of hand if they vote for that individual;
• Legislative Officer will track the hand count;
• above process will continue for each Nominee until complete;
• after all hand votes are completed, the Legislative Officer will tally the count and read out the result.
The above process will start all over for the election of the Vice-Chair.
