PURPOSE OF REPORT

The purpose of this report is to formally advise Council of a motion passed by Standing Committee of the Whole arising from an item on the agenda of June 11, 2024 meeting of the Committee.

 

BACKGROUND AND DISCUSSION

 

On June 11, 2024, Standing Committee of the Whole directed Administration to amend Bylaw 15/2024 to remove the proposed requirement for an election sign to have a minimum distance from the curb or roadway.

 

Administration has amended Bylaw 15/2024 in accordance with this direction (see attached Bylaw 15/2024 and redline excerpt of Traffic Bylaw 18/2005).

Compliance & Legal

 

First, second, and third readings of Bylaw 15/2024 are scheduled for the same day (July 2, 2024). The MGA provides that a proposed bylaw must not have more than two readings at a Council meeting unless the Council members present unanimously agree to consider third reading at the same meeting.

 

If unanimous consent for third reading of Bylaw 15/2024 is not granted on July 2, 2024, third reading of Bylaw 15/2024 will occur at the next regular Council meeting.

That Administration amend Bylaw 15/2024 by deleting the requirement for a minimum distance from the curb or roadway.

 

That Standing Committee of the Whole recommend to Council that Bylaw 15/2024 be given three readings, as amended.
